Howden Park Centre is managed, operated and programmed by West Lothian Council's Community Arts Team. It is the centrepeice of the council's three venue strategy which refurbished the Regal Community Theatre in Bathgate in 2005. This magnificent Art Deco building now offers a full programme of music, theatre, cinema and more and provides a spotlight for community arts groups.
The third part of the strategy will see the transformation of the A listed Burgh Halls in Linlithgow. This building will reopen in 2011 as a heritage and arts centre as well as an attraction for visitors and the local community.
As well as providing a full arts performance and activity programme at Howden Park Centre, West Lothian Council's Community Arts Team supports other venues, works to strengthen community arts groups, develops all aspects of the curriculum in schools and provides instrumental music lessons during, and out of, school hours.
The service operates in three main sections - Arts Development, Arts Education Services and Instrumental Music Service. West Lothian Council spends in the region of £1.5million a year on arts services aiming to make the arts an integral part of community life in West Lothian.
