Arts Education Service works with professional artists, arts organisations and
West Lothian schools to develop a range of creative learning opportunities for pupils and teachers. It supports schools to deliver the Curriculum for Excellence enabling our young people to become successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors. It also incorporates the work of West Lothian's Dance Development Officer.
The arts are a powerful tool for developing children's learning across the curriculum. There is evidence that schools are increasingly using the arts, culture and heritage to link learning, enhance classroom teaching and to deliver the curriculum in creative ways.
Dance Development, the Curriculum Dance programme is now in its sixth year and covers Intermediate Level 2 dance programme delivered at 3 West Lothian Secondary Schools and the SQA accredited Higher dance course, run in partnership with Telford College and Inveralmond Community High School. Pupils from this programme have gone on to study dance at HNC, HND and degree level. The Dance Development Officer provides advice and support in delivering curriculum dance courses to Broxburn and St Kentigern's Academies. Partnership working allows the dance development programme to reach specific target groups in the wider community. Partnerships include West Lothian Leisure, Sure Start, Generation Arts, Day Services and Community Learning & Development.
Creative projects developed and delivered by Arts Education Service involve music, drama, dance, writing, crafts, painting and filming.
